Hey guys,

I am new to MacOs, but it's fair to say that Safari is yet to be a stable all-purpose browser.

So I installed chrome, which I guess is pretty common among Macos users. My one, big problem, with chrome is that it doesn't have 2 highly useful features that safari has

1. Airdrop / airplay - On safari, being able to right click and airdrop was awesome. Can this be added to Chrome?

2. Phone numbers - when clicking on safari it gives me the option to ring via my iPhone. Can this be added to chrome?

Like i say, I am still new to Macos, but in my short experience, i feel like the "services" section is where this power should lie

Thanks in advance.

I would challenge that statement. Stability, performance, security and compatibility of Safari is more or less on par with Chrome, and privacy is superior, which makes Safari it a good all-purpose browser. Chrome might have more plug-ins, but I would call that a "special purpose" feature.

I wish i could agree with you, I whole heartedly wanted to use Apple Software exclusively. And safari is Stable for the most part and it is quick, I prefer a lot about it over chrome. But there is one big flaw in it being a good all purpose browser, and that is that Netflix doesn't work on safari. And I'd imagine a lot of other video streaming sites wouldn't work either if Netflix doesn't. So I have to have Chrome installed irregardless.

But then on top of that, which is a little more niche, is the developer tools in Safari arent that great, and since I am a web developer that is pretty important. On the same topic, a color picker plugin is essential to my workflow... so I can click any color on a webpage and quickly copy the hex value.

I just wish, Chrome integrated with Keychain.

But mainly, Id like to find out about the sharing options mentioned in my opening post.

Edit. Im sure your going to ask why netflix doesnt work. Basically, it does work at first glance, but every 15 mins or so the video freezes, with audio playing and the only fix is to move the mouse. This gets frustrating when trying to watch a show.

Phone links do work in MacOS Chrome, they will invoke FT (on your Mac), which can be setup to dial via your iPhone. Google search results are wired into Hangouts/GV (which shouldn't be a surprise :))

FWIW, using Chrome on iOS provides a nice way to access current tabs, share bookmarks, etc., and it's nice because it's cross platform (helpful for me since I move between MacOS and Windows [VM, Bootcamp and another machine] pretty regularly). Gives you a kind of a "Handoff Lite" :D

Oh I actually wasn't aware that phone links already tied to the iPhone, I just tested it straight from google, which yes, ties into google hangouts.

My one issue with this however, is that lots of websites dont actually make use of phone links. On safari, if you highlight any phone number, a little drop down appears asking if you want to call it on your iphone. If i could get a similar feature on chrome that would be ideal. Maybe via the services right click menu?

Also, the airplay / airdrop integration is really missed. There must be a way to get that on the services menu.

Thanks for all the other tips, regarding Chrome on iOS. Although, for your information, bookmarks on chrome automatically sync with the icloud. At least thats what I was led to believe when i installed chrome last week.

Netflix works in Safari for me. Make sure that you've allowed auto-play for Netflix in the "Websites" section of Safari's preferences.

Thanks for the tip... not snubbing it, but im curious why anything related to autoplay would be my issue? Video plays fine, it just freezes every several minutes while audio still plays and i have to move the mouse to get the video playing again.

Before I start tinkering around I just want to make sure your aware of that? If you still think it could be related, I will try it tonight

On my computer, if I don't enable autoplay the video never plays. I don't have any issues with the video freezing.
