Make Finder sidebar text/icons larger?

My grandfather just got an iMac and it would be really helpful for his eyes if he could make the sidebar in the Finder larger. He's using Snow Leopard. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks!

You might want to put the menu items on the top of the finder window like this :
