I second 300. Maybe not the greatest or deepest film ever made or even close, but it's just awesome to watch, and probably among the greatest guy's movie ever made.

If you got a hyoooge TV, even better.

Don't forget: The Terminator 2, Aliens and Predator. Three of the greatest guy movies ever made. You just can't go wrong with any of those popped in your DVD player when friends are over.

Anymore Garden State-esque films?

The Last Kiss had a similar feel to it as Garden State in my opinion, although not nearly as good. In fact I was under the impression it was another Zach Braff written/directed film but after looking it up it appears I was incorrect.


As someone else suggested definitely check out The Big Lebowski, at least rent it.

Even if you don't think they fit in with your preferred genres, I'd recommend Goodfellas and Casino.

Based on the movies you mentioned I'd add:

• The Game - Ten years old but holds up well.
• Memento - Will make your brain hurt, but worth the pain.
• Amelié - totally worth the subtitles
• Before Sunrise and then Before Sunset. Same vibe as Garden State I think, but a bit less contrived.
• Dazed & Confused - Sticking with the "making sense of coming of age" theme this one is best of breed. Linklater's best.
• High Fidelity - Garden State plus ten years.

I also enthusiastically second the recommendations for:

• The Wire
• Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
• Shaun of the Dead
• City of God (which doesn't really resemble the moves you said you liked, but is quite awesome)
