Just managed to brick my phone. itunes thought it was up to date but downloaded ios9 and failed completely. Couldn't even do a factory restore.

On the NZ site at least, itunes 12.3 wasn't available until a couple of hours later, and updating to that fixed things. Now restored and back on...

Just a warning to make sure you have 12.3 before you start the upgrade...

Thank you. Just came here to find out why my iPhone appears to be bricked and I bet this is the reason why. Thanks for posting!
