they had already mentioned that they may have a version of the iphone for use in china. If that is the case, then we may see it on verizon soon as well..

what about in the stock holder meeting when the spokesperson stated that they had no intent of leaving att anytime soon and that they were more than happy with them. i doubt att would be very happy about apple going over to verizon. plus we don't even know the terms of the exclusivity for the iphone.

Right. Which is why Apple isn't leaving AT&T, but rather extending the iPhone to Verizon.

Which gives your stance even less ground.

actually i think its kind of a wash either way. but apple wont extend to verizon, its a waste of money for them to produce a whole nother iphone. it would have to be set up differently because verizon is CDMA and ATT is GSM

I think the pros outweigh the cost. Why else would any phone manufacturer make phones that work with CDMA and GSM?

apple is not your run of the mill phone manufacturer. apple doesnt like to create a wide product line up, they like to have as few products as possible. they have 3 laptops, and 3 desktops and 2 iphones, there not going to add a completely different (from a manufacturing stand point) iphone, they would not be able to make these any where near as efficiently as the current/next gen iphones. plus they would only be able to sell it in 2 markets on 2 continents, compared to what, 30+ on 6 continents?

I'll agree that it doesn't make a lot of sense, but it would expand the user base (which is what they are really looking for) and as far as what the rumors are reporting it would line up with what we've heard. And I'm sure Verizon will bend over backward to get an iPhone on their network.

all apple is intersted in doing is increasing profits, not users, and its not cost effective to develop, manufacture, market a new iphone that wont sell half as well as it would on ATT because verizon has made the iphone seem 2nd best to the storm (not the case in the real world obviously but thats the way verizon has made it seem to there customers.)

We'll just have to wait and see won't we? Especially since neither of us has data on how cost effective it would be to make a new phone. Although I will point out that plenty of phone makers make phones that run on both networks and they never seem to complain about how cost ineffective it is.

Yes we will, definitely true about the data on how cost effective it would be, but most of the phone makers that do make phones that run on both networks are primarily phone makers i.e; nokia, samsung and lg (those two kinda, they have other products but i would say they are primarily phone makers) HTC. most of those phone makers use the same chips through out there phones, obviously different chips for CDMA and GSM but most of them use the same cell chips, that makes it cheaper for them to have CDMA and GSM versions of some phones. apple would have to buy new chips, and they wouldnt fit the same way the GSM chips did, so they would have to figure out how to arrange the innards of the iphone. all and all R&D is not cheap and it would take a whole lot of R&D for apple to make a CDMA iphone. plus manufacturing of two separate iphones and marketing for two separate iphones. thats why i think there wont be a CDMA iphone ( i didnt say verizon because when LTE rolls around i can definitely see apple making one) you definitely made a good point about not knowing numbers though, i have to admit that without knowing the numbers i cant say for sure

You know what would be a killer feature for the 3.0 firmware? The reflective dock from the first generation iPod touch.

That is sweet, never knew that it was like that!
