Making a Disk image

Hey guys,

How do I make a disc image of a dvd or cd on my iMac? I know I have to go DiskUtility and then New Image, but I don't want to try it until I know exactly what to do after that so I don't damage anything.

dvd in drive - open disk util - click on the dvd on the left and then click disk image on the top then wait 10 min

yep after you have the image on the left then click on burn on the top bar

What do I save the image as? (compressed, dvd-cd?)

If you're going to burn it I'd say CD/DVD master. I have a scratched Tiger DVD and want to make a copy of it.
