so here is the set up ... i have a Lacie D2 firewire hard drive that crapped out on me, i took the thing apart, swapped the hard drive into my machine to see what would happen, and it's the drive thats done

i also have an OLD usb 1.1 CD Burner ... that burner is painfully slow

so here is what i have been attempting to do

carefully took out the CD writer out of it's USB enclosure, and hooked it into the firewire enclosure... unfortunatly ... nothing happens in way off allowing me to use the drive

the thing powers up, i can open and close the drive tray, but when a CD is inserted nothing loads, and the front light goes red

when there is no media, there is no light on at all

any suggestions? maybe some guidance? or is it just a lost cause?

Just a thought...

Make sure that the Jumper on the back of the drive is set to Master (M) and reconnect it all back up. It should work fine as long as it's a regular IDE drive.
