Making After Effects faster help

Hi.

I am running AF 7 on a Quda G5 with 4GB of ram.

Is there a way I can make it to run faster?

I hearded that some how I can make the computer to take AF as a priority and on the render queue is using only 3GB it says.

But in the activity monitor is using only 249 % even is the only application running. there is an extra 38% without any use, I mean 2.6 GB inactive and 1.42 free.

I mean, I see so much wasted.

Anyone?

Maybe set up one or two render nodes on the same machine? I don't know how to do that but using those search terms can help you.
