Okay, so this seems like a bit of a noob question, especially since I've had my Mac for 3 years now, but anyway...

I have a picture that I'd like to use as an icon for a folder, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to USE it as a folder icon.

I have OS 10.4, and the image is a .gif.

    folder icon

    Hi Ani

I often make icons and a very simple app to use is Can Combine Icons.
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/6926/can-combine-icons

but be careful as its developer is a bit flakey...however if you get it running its simple and VERY effective

You get a folder icon you like and then a graphic icon you like and combine as a tiff or icon file etc.

    Try it but be wary

Or use img2icns to simply transform your .gif into a .ics
Then use Get Info on the icon and the folder and select the little symbol on the top left and copy and paste.
