I was wondering about this-- How can someone make an app? What is involved in the steps?

I would like to give it a try some time, but I havn't any clue where to start and if it costs money to get the tools to make them. I've got a few ideas for freebies kicking around in my head and I think I would like to give it an attempt.

You need the iPhone SDK free download from apple and xcode also free, then find some tutorials to do or something to get you going

Are you serious? Apple.com would probably be a good place to start, don't you think?

    "Finding these" also includes tutorials--

I went to download from Apple.com and I see they have a developer program for $99 and $299

Do I have to be a part of that developer program in order to use the SDK and put out apps?

I smell another flashlight/tip calculator/todo list in the works...

You can use the SDK for free, to put an app on your device or to sell it, you have to pay.

    Creating Apps for iPhone

    Here is my suggestion:

    1) Goto:

    http://developer.apple.com/iphone/

    2) After you create yourself and Apple ID, you will be able to access the content.

    3) Read most of the Getting Started Documents (and view the videos)

    4) Learn Objective-C... (especially the detailed version: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/l...ectiveC/Introduction/chapter_1_section_1.html)

    5) Learn well the UIKit framework (that is going to be your friend for quite a while! :)

    I hope the above helps....

P.S. - I have created over 20 apps since launch... I love it.... its pretty fun...

Actually, I'm an animator and I had some games in mind, but hey, thanks for the vote of confidence.

I have two GREAT apps in mind, but don't know sh*t about writing codes. The apps I have in mind should not be too hard for someone who has experience. Perhaps someone here in S.F. area would like to meet and chat about an opportunity to make some money. PM me.

I wish Apple would create something like DashCode for the iPhone. Just a way to make simple apps from a template.

They do, Dashcode now has the ability to make iPhone formatted web applications.

If you want apple to put out something like dashcode for native apps then likely what you are looking for in the realm of native apps can be accomplished with a web app...

if it is a template that you are after then Interface builder is very easy to lay out an interface, but there is A LOT of code that goes into the applications back end to make that interface work with your application.
