Not sure if this is in the right place but hopefully it is

I’m trying to make phone calls from my iPad, however every time I try I get the following error message “iPhone calls not available. Your iPhone must be on the same WiFi network to make this call”

The issues is both my iPhone and iPad are on the same WiFi network

I had an issues originally with not having calls on other devices activated on my iPhone. But I do now, however for some reason I just cannot seem to make calls from my iPad

Any suggestions please?

I have yeah I’ve only got the 1 Apple ID and rebooting was first thing I did after turning the setting on in my iPhone for both devices

wba1990, you are not alone in this issue you described. I have had similar problem when trying to make phone calls from both my iPad and my MacBook. I have not been able to trace this problem since the issue is intermittent. I have seen this issue when my iOS devices had the most recent iOS and the previous iOS. I have attributed it to the vagaries of my ISP or possibly my Apple airport router.

Just makes no sense, so annoying and it’s the one thing that’s stops me fully leaving my phone in one room and having my iPad in another and using my iPad for everything in the house. I can get calls on my AW, and my iPad receives all texts. Just calls for some reason

If you have more than one wifi network (your main one and maybe guest), check to see if they are all sharing the same one. I don't know if this applies to this particular problem but I've got some other equipment that needs my iPad to be on the same wifi network to connect. For instance, device is on main but iPad has connected to guest: they can't 'cooperate'. Switch iPads wifi to main and they can.

Maybe it’s somehow WiFi related. Test in another location with a different network and see if it’s better or worse or the same. Best success!

It doesn’t seem to be a WiFi problem, my mum is also on the same WiFi too and she can make and receive calls on her iPad from her iPhone

Just does not seem to happen for me for some reason, not a clue what to do from here

So, you have the following in order:

iPad FaceTime settings > Calls from iPhone > ON

iPhone > Cellular settings > Calls on Other Devices > ON
Allow Calls On > iPad

You can also try turning off the above settings and logging out of your iCloud account. Then log back in to iCloud and turning on the above settings.

Yeah these settings are in have I’ve tried turning them off and back on and logging out and back in too with no joy

Do you have a dual band router? Could one be on 2.4 and the other on 5 GHz?

Not a clue if I’m honest how would I find that out?

If you do have a dual-band router you'd normally see two networks with nearly the same name, though one would likely be labeled 5G. Eg. ABC123, ABC123 5G

If you haven't restarted your wifi router, give that a shot. You might be amazed how often that fixes quirky wifi-related issues.

That's true. Then, if you still don't get it to work, have both devices forget the network and re join it (assuming you know the password, otherwise don't do that.)

The router has been rebooted a few times and still no joy

Doesn’t seem to make much sense it works on my mums devices but not mine

Still get “not available make sure both devices are on the same WiFi network”
