My new Panasonic plasma TV is indeed very thin. But, compared to my old TV, it also has better resolution, connects to the internet for iPlayer etc., has an SD card slot, 4 HDMIs etc. etc.
The fact that it's thinner means nothing to me. The improvement in picture quality and features is much more important.
Unless I'm wrong, the new iMac has lost features (the CDROM) in pursuit of thinness.
I guess I'm looking to buy a BTO 27"... The new iMac does have some better specs in terms of processor, memory, etc. Even the screen is now IPS and wasn't before, right? (not sure - correct me if I am wrong)
Regarding the CD drive, I could see how that bothers some people, but it is old technology. Personally, I hate everything about CDs ... storing them, transporting them, protecting them (from scratches), destroying them (ones with sensitive data), etc.
We are the last generation that will use them. My daughter will probably look at me with a "wtf" expression if I have any left in 10 years to show her ...
That said, I understand CDROMs are still in use. But why keep old technology on ALL machines when only some people use them and others are ready to move on?
