ABC. Always Be Charging. Top it off frequently and it will give you better performance vs. letting it run down and then charging.

Turning location services off was easily the biggest drain on my battery, a d I never even use it. My battery lasts a whole day easily now, while it is close to dead by noon with it on, and I still keep wifi and 3G on.

I have my settings like this
And I can get two days worth of life out of my phone.
I text and surf a lot, and use apps with location services.

Blue tooth is off
Wifi is off
location services is on (you can turn it on until you need it, i really dont think it makes that much of a diff)
push is on for me (you should really keep it off, you can just check email manually)
fetch is manually
brightness is on auto

PUSH. That has to be the biggest battery drainer of them all, I turned it of for about a month, prompted by a trip to the US for my honeymoon and found that the battery lasted a lot longer. When I came back to the UK I kept it of for a few weeks and could use 3G again and still found it lasted quite a while.

I have turned it back on again and can see the battery has started to drain quickly again, but then again I do use my phone a lot for surfing and watching videos.

I can't see truning of WiFi when not in use making that bigger difference as when the phone goes to sleep WiFi turns of and only pops up when you sue a data app to which you can tell it no and it will stop searching.

Turn off WiFi when not near a network.

Turn down brightness. (that's a major one)

Turn off 3G. (another big one)

Turn off location services.

Turn off Bluetooth.

Turn off Push/Fetch.

I feel like as each minute goes by my iPhone 3G battery goes down a percent, it really sucks. I'll be texting and then get a phone call and after that my battery will be at 92%. Like wtf I don't understand.

Bluetooth, wifi, push are all off yet I still can't just hold a good battery.

Location services doesnt hurt your battery unless you activate a program that uses it.

Actually, from what I understand, the batteries only have a limited amount of recharge cycles, so always charging might not be a good thing.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Lithium Ion benefit from frequent charging, vs. the old NiCad which did better when you let them run down.

Yes, there is a limited amount of cycles, but 1 cycle on these types of batteries is 1 full discharge, not necessarily each time you plug it in. So if you drain the battery down to 50% then fully charge and the next day drain the battery down to 50% that is 1 cycle. Another way to look at it is how much charge are you putting back in. If you put in 25% when charging(battery percentage or icon 3/4 full) four times that is 1 cycle.

So, keeping it plugged in as much as possible will prolong the life of the battery. The battery should be fully discharged, or at least down to 10% or so once a month to keep it healthy.
