I've got a 27" iMac and whenever I open a MS Word document, the dam thing is so small you can read it. So I've got to zoom in to be able to read it.

Is there a way to make the default size bigger when opening up a word document? I've got 27" of screen room and need/want it to be bigger.

Which version of Word are you using? There should a setting to make the default zoom "Fit" - which is what you want. The location of this setting depends on which version of Word you are using.

Edit the Normal.dotm file.

Users -> (Your Name) -> Library -> Application Support -> Microsoft -> Office -> User Templates -> Normal.dotm.

When you save the amended file, save it to your desktop (as a template file), then once Word is closed copy/paste back into the User Templates folder.

It's 2008 version 12.3.0

Here's a link to a thread i made about how to setup keyboard shortcuts to easily zoom Word (or Excel) to your desired window size, position & text zoom level when you open a document or start a new one :-

Ignore the rant about Office ;)

Works fine with Office 2011, which I've upgraded to. 2011 is pretty good, the ribbon is not such a disaster as I feared (and optional or easily collapsible).
