If all goes well I will be jumping ship from my hobbling android brick in the coming weeks. A couple of questions about juggling between two giant data juggernauts:

I sync my google contacts with my phone. It took a bit of setting up but it is quite nice now. I don't use apple to sync anything... used ical in the past along with the phone book thing on my imac, but there was no point. I can call people from gmail and gcal is as good as anything i've seen.

but... i want to be able to add a name to my phone and have it appear in my google contacts. tinkering with ical and the contacts book in the past led to me getting double entries and annoying popups for events i didn't need to be reminded about.

and while i love instapaper things and reader looks great, i don't plan on opening safari any time soon. I want my chrome bookmarks and a chrome extension to put things in the ios 5 reader.

and i also love reading things on actual paper. can i make that little magazine rack disappear? I don't want it.

It's been so long. I'm ready.

I'll just quickly address the Google calendar and contacts syncing you referenced. I have an iPhone and this is exactly what I do. It works well (It syncs instantly and I have no double entries etc) and my calendar on the iPhone and Google Cal sync both ways. Same with my contacts (and email), I have all my contacts on Google's Contact page and they sync both ways with the iPhone's Contacts application.

This is the method that most of us (using Google's email, contacts and calendar on the web) use to sync up everything:
