Currently on EE (not sure if this is relevant) and have always had my fair share of spam calls and spam iMessage messages/SMSes. Annoying, but not a big issue for me as these have all been in basic text form.

Today I received 2 suspicious WhatsApp messages (would prefer not to use WhatsApp but unfortunately here in the UK it's the de facto platform for group chats/texts). One was of a document file (according to the preview on my iPhone's home screen), and another was an image file. I have my auto-download settings set as such but DID NOT open the messages before deleting them.

Is my phone in danger of any malware/virus etc? My phone is my main ibanking device and it would be a nightmare if that were the case. Thank you and apologies for the silly question.

Generally-
If a nation state hacking group targets you, there’s pretty much no escape from eventually getting hacked no matter what you do. But if you are just another citizen of the billions in this world, a non prominent regular person, then the likelyhood of getting hacked by malware in iOS is extremely low.

Don’t click on unknown links and don’t ever click random links in forums. (Like this one).

That's good to know. Was mainly worried due to that 'media auto-download' setting. Didn't open the message though so maybe (hopefully?) the file wasn't actually downloaded!

Umm.. say you’re part of the second group.. but just to be sure-because I’m experiencing ‘difficulties’ what would way to know that a nation state hacking group, didn’t hack you?
