I have a current get MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar. I love my MacBook Pro and have no issues with it. Today when I tried to log in to facebook, the FB website said my computer needs to be scanned with ESET for malware.

I don't really want to let a website just choose to mess with my computer. Is there a better way to go about this? I have never had a virus issue with any of am Apple Products but maybe there is some malware on my laptop...who knows. Is there safe way to check? I don't go to strange sites etc.

Thank you!

DL Malwarebytes for Mac and run a scan this will flush out any Malware, if still concerned you can also get Bitdefender's scanner from the Apple Store, it's free and only scans on demand, adding nothing to the system.

Sounds like the browser is misdirecting you to another site which will want to DL or you grant admin privilege, examining the URL will you an indication.

This is on my work wifi that has a password. My router is an AirPort Extreme. It is my own company so I am in charge of the router etc. Nothing has been changed in months. I checked that it is the correct facebook page etc.

I downloaded Malwarebytes for Mac and it says my system is clean. But still can't get on FB and I actually need to do something form the site that would be tedious from my phone. Oh well! I guess I'll try from my home computer.

I googled the situation and it seems I am not the only person who has had this response from FB but I still don't trust it. It just seems this could be the beginning of a mess if I let it mess with my system.

I wouldn't trust it either. – I suggest looking at what browser extensions are installed. I'm thinking you may have accidentally allowed some extension/add-on that injects ads or something
