MAMP not working

almost there!

i followed this thread as i was having the exact same problem. but once i got through the terminal command

chmod 777 index.php

it came back with rwxrwxrwx 1 WW admin 1.5k Feb 18 07:34 index.php*

then, when i went back to view the file from dreamweaver, it told me that i needed to set up a test server. but it was in trying to get the test server to work that i went through all of this and tried the above commands, etc. I have all of the files in the proper places, but something is causing it to work improperly. any ideas?

please help ...
