Have you thought about going to the authorities and getting this guy arrested? You have some evidence and maybe the authorities can take over from where you started.

What he is doing is illegal and the more that is off the street the better.

I have enjoyed the antics so far by the way.

You have him hook line and sinker.

Wouldn't that only work if he were to actually enter the country (which I doubt he has any intention of actually doing)?

I don't know the answer to that. You could be right, I never thought of that. Sorry. It was a nice dream though. I just hate to see thieves get away with illegal activity.

I just hope that no one falls for that crap.

just a suggestion on what to do next...

To egg him on some more, tell him that the power outage in your area is disrupting cell phone communication and it looks like you'll have to use voicemail or email to communicate with him. Then ask him what he needs to speak to you about. I have a feeling that they insist on talking to a live person because anything recorded could incriminate them in a number of offenses.

Good stuff! Enjoyed reading all this, can't wait to see where this goes.

I had a scammer a while ago. I think I pushed too far, claiming I was a widowed 40 year old millionaire.I pushed to getting his passport photo too soon too. Can't wait to get my next one though, I've learnt a lot from this thread already.

Although it's probably already being/been done, someone should organize an online community of some type that uses methods like these and others to fight back against spammers and scammers. I think a lot of this nonsense would stop if those involved knew there were people out there making their work this much more difficult.

As mentioned on page 1 (I think it was jello), 419eater.com does that.

Some thoughts - I think the need for the phone, in addition to avoiding recordings, is to ensure that he can speak with you. Another avenue that you may want to consider to avoid the phone calls is to ask him, in email, exactly what the voicemail said. After all, either his connection is poor, your reception is poor, or you just cannot understand his accent. I know that you are sorry that you are an ignorant American, but you just struggle with understanding those not from the US. I know that you are truly sorry, and the $10m tax free would help you pay off your home, and are willing to do whatever it takes to work things out.;)

It's not nice and may offend some of the more sensitive among us, but you might want to find Christ at some point. If things start to fail with this guy, you may be able to get him to push you to an acquaintance...:D

What, and spoil everyone's fun?

"419" refers to the Nigerian penal code. He could be nabbed in his own country. Except my above point overrides this option. :)

Do you know how many scammers there are in Nigeria? If you called the authorities to report one, they would laugh at you. They can go into any internet cafe and find a room full, reporting one isn't going to help them at all.

Say something like my bank provides bodyguards when we travel overseas due to the knowledge we have about the bank. The guy who travels with me is apparently ex South African special forces.I dont like the guy very much but he will be with me as its bank policy.I hope this ok?

Wouldnt be hillarious if him and his chumps were waiting for a flight which never turned up and you got him in the **** with his bosses in Nigeria :D

The trail's gone cold.

Maybe after all this MWSF excitement he figured out the "Steven Jobbs" bit. He won't respond, and clearly figured it out somehow.

HOWEVER-
I encourage anyone to send an email to the address provided on page 1. He clearly doesn't keep track of where the emails actually go, and thus I was able to create a brand new email and use that without ever having been contacted by him. Just shoot him an email saying you're interested, and post results here!

Here's to scamming the scammers.
