this kind of thing is a true psychological disorder.
these people have real food issues and cannot stop eating and gaining weight.
Food becomes an addiction. in the true sense of the word.
Its not really funny a bit sad and mostly misunderstood. I find a 350 pound person more responsible for their condition than a 800 pound person. ie food choices, exercise and other lifestyle choices. once you go over 500 pounds it becomes more mental/medical issue than a lifestyle choice issue.
its like saying depressed people should go be happy.

No that’s no laughing matter, that can happen to ether one of us, no that is no way to live.:(

it is incredibly abnormal to reach weights like this. there has to be another genetic factor to even allow such a thing in a human body. i wouldn't chalk it all up to laziness and overeating.

Exactly. I don't think Jessica's maths is going to explain anything. This is abnormal, plain and simple. If I did take in the number of calories that Jessica calculated every day, I'd get fat too, but not like that. It would be impossible for me. I would die before I ever got to half his weight.

Clearly genetics. Not even the doctors know exactly how he got to this weight after examining his health, so it's probably not just (calories taken in) - (calories burned).

wow... really the human body is amazing, no that's not a joke, in all seriousness, his heart must be of an ox. I am glad that he is trying to do something about it, and I have all the reason he is that heavy is due to genetics.

I have an uncle that has had a couple of surgeries to help him lose weight (he weighes in at probably about 400 lbs). I think the last one was gastric bypass or stomach stapling. In any case, he lost a lot of weight at first, but then slowly over time he gained all the weight back. I think, in part, it was due to his not really changing his eating habits. You would think that those would change and that you would learn to eat less since your stomach is smaller. However, if you gauge your portions by whether or not you are feeling stuffed or overstuffed rather than by paying attention to how much you've actually eaten then it doesn't seem like much will change in the end. Sad as it is, if this man's weight is due in any part to his eating habits (which it sounds like it is) then he should work on changing those habits before he gets the surgery to help increase the likelihood of the weight staying off.

Even if the rest of the cause is some genetic problem, the sooner they figure it out the sooner they can determine the most effective way to change his lifestyle to get and keep the weight off.

That is quite sad how large that guy is... He must have a horrible lifestyle.. I mean, it must be hard for him to move even a few feet.. And wow, it must be hard to take a shower...

There has to be more than just eating a lot - his blood work and such all test out ok. From what it sounds like, if you looked at his chart (without meeting him) you would think that there was a typo and they meant 120 and not 1200....

That is really incredible. Hes 10.5 times my weight. I never thought I'd see someone so overweight, truly sad.

There is a condition called Prada Willi Syndrome (probably spelt wrong) and it tells the brain that you are hungry and not full even when you are totally 'full' so you want to keep eating. People with PWS can be massive and its totally not their fault. I dont think that is the case for poor Uribe of Mexico as its not mentioned in the article, but my point is to the people that think his situation is funny and judge the guy on his appearance. Its most likely a medical problem and you need to grow up a bit and educate yourselves as to other peoples sufferings.

Yes, Prader Willie Syndrome.

i would have to think something is medical wrong with him, unless he really sat and eat all day, i mean by the time you get to 500lbs you would think to start fixing the problem

poster before me seem to agree!

I loves me some Prada.

Don't you mean "Where's my Willie?" syndrome

*ducks*
When's the last time he saw HIS?

Okay, a little joke on the unfortunate... sorry.
I have a dear friend that is 370. He's not the "gross" kind of overweight... he's 6'2" and solid like a ROCK, and easily the strongest human I've ever met. One day we were in a restaurant and one of those strength machines was there. You had to press together some bulls horns. I'm 6'7" and 210, and NOT weak at all. I got at about the 40% level. No crap, he LIFTED the machine OFF the freakin' floor while scoring 100%. But anyway, he's always been big. Diets don't seem to matter much. He once ate a 16" inch pizza and a 6-pack just BEFORE we went to DINNER. Other times he east nothing but salads. He worked on a boat and was in constant motion. His heart rate is 65 and blood pressure is something like 120 over 70. BUT, now he has diabetes and is taking another job that's more sedentary. I warned him to look out... try to do SOMETHING, because sooner or later it will kill you. I'm worried that the calories he was burning working hard will now go toward more fat... that he won't be able to lose to easy.
