I have several Smart Playlists in iTunes, which I use to manage music by the Grouping field.

The problem is, now that a couple of these playlists have 1200+ tracks, when I want to move some new music, I have to hold and drag it all the way to the beginning, so I can then place it in the position I want it to be in. Is there a way to quickly move a song within a playlist? For example, let's say I add a new song, and I want to move it to near the beginning of the playlist. Is there an faster way to move it from position 1400 to 14?

Well, it's a crude solution, but here's one thing you can try:

Make a new playlist and add the songs you want to move to it. Then double click on that playlist to open it in a new window, with the original giant playlist still open in the main window. You can now drag the song(s) from the open dummy playlist window to anywhere in the old playlist without having to wait for it to scroll with the mouse button held down.

The additional annoying downside to this, however, is that it will add the song to the playlist again rather than moving it, so you'll have to go delete the undesired copy from the large playlist as well. (And iTunes won't let you open the same playlist in two windows--if you try to do it it automatically closes the non-main window.)

It's not great, but if you're moving several songs this might be faster than the drag and hold thing.

Try this; once the song you want to move is hi-lighted go to the menu bar FILE> Get Info (cmnd+I) then select the "info" tab and hi-light the song name. This allows you to place a "1" in the front of the name thus renaming and reorganizing it in the playlist. Repeat for however you want to organize your songs.
