I'll have to try PhotoSync I should have mentioned two other requirements (perhaps one requirement)

Actual Requirement: I don't want it in the cloud I want to backup to my local RAID array and be able to edit. I don't want anything in the cloud for pure storage volume and I don't like having to worry about paying a monthly bill when I have terabytes of storage sitting idle.

Second Requirement: I would prefer to use the lighting cable for speed sakes, so I'm trying PhotoSync but my gripe with that is its over the wifi.

Curious if you’ve tried the PhotoSync app yet? I think it’s faster than the lightening cable but haven’t done any kind of speed test to do an actual comparison. I do have a fast new router though. WiFi speeds between devices in the house are night and day different than speeds to the cloud, especially uploading.

So after trying PhotoSync I think if my WiFi was better then maybe it would be an option. However I have to wonder is there really no good method of transferring via the lighting cable with the simplicity of how PhotoSync copies over the wifi?

I like that it highlights what's new and you can select just what you want but the Wifi syncing is just slow. Also have to keep the app in the foreground but maybe thats a limitation of background third party apps.

My photos wouldn't fit into the 5GB storage or, at the very least, it would be a tight fit so I use Google Photos.

When I'm outside, I make sure that I'm not uploading any photos I take to Google because of my data allowance. But when I'm at home I upload them all using wi-fi. I like Google Photos, though, so that's a good thing.
