I don't know how many of you are interested in eGPU enclosures but this mantiz case offers ethernet, USB3, SATA3 and 60w charging. Even though it is not officially supported by Apple it looks to be working fine. Here is a review: https://egpu.io/mantiz-venus-review-thunderbolt-3-external-gpu-docking-station/

At the moment there is an offer for the first 50 EGPU.IO forum members to have the case for $300 (instead of $379): https://egpu.io/forums/deals/us-eu-mantiz-venus-thunderbolt-3-egpu-enclosure-group-buy/

These eGPU boxes seem to be a great addition to the new macbooks. I am thinking for a 13" that will give both portability and the ability to use Resolve & FCPX for 4K grading/editing:

Do we know how this is working with the 2016/2017 MBP and AMD GPUs? Looking for plug n play under High Sierra.

I'm running an RX 580 8gb with my 2016 15". Works great. Plug and play with High Sierra Developer Preview. It uses the same thunderbolt chipset that Apple is using in their developer preview kit. The Venus is the ultimate docking station for the MacBook Pro. It's really been incredible, and absolutely flawless. I love having ethernet, USB3, and eSATA for additional SSD storage. The ethernet requires a driver install, FYI.

I highly recommend. If you're big into bootcamp though, Windows has been a pain to get working and often breaks for me between updates. It works better for folks with the 13" as windows doesn't seem to play well with discreet graphics combinations. It can be made to work with enough tinkering though.

Really?! Just install the AMD GPU into the Mantiz, plus the Mantiz into my MBP, and the MBP (High Sierra) will see it without any further action? How about faster GPUs by AMD... Something like the RX VEGA 64? I'll probably pre-order the Space Grey right now so I'll be ready for the final release of High Sierra... Thanks!

What applications are seeing this AMD with your setup? I use multiple windows in Safari as well as Pixelmator... I'm guessing that a Mantiz would be overkill for me? Unless I find some good Mac games?

It literally is plug and play. Very simple. The OS detects the eGPU and asks you to log out. You log back in and viola, eGPU is working. The best thing about the Venus is it delivers full power to the 15" as well as driving the eGPU and other data connections. One cable really does it all. It truly is the ULTIMATE docking station! Assuming of course Apple doesn't pull support when High Sierra launches, lol. It's best if you have a monitor plugged into the GPU, eGPU doesn't currently drive thunderbolt display solutions, FYI.

I bought into the solution for enhancing my video editing work flow. Overkill for me too. But it's fun. It's been working great. FCPX has had a few issues, but I'm sure it will all be cleared up by launch. Haven't noticed any issues in the Adobe suite. RX 580 is supported natively in High Sierra beta. Not sure about the Vega card...maybe someone else can chime in on that. If it's the card going in iMac Pro, it will probably have native support.

eGPU.io has been a great forum and resource for me, you should check it out.

Awesome! All my questions answered! I'd use it to power the LG 38UC99 monitor... I love that the Mantiz is basically a docking station as well... I hope High Sierra gets released next month. I can't find a Vega card in stock anywhere though.

That website seems a little complicated... I'm just a Mac user ;)

I have historically loved the Apple display line, I use the 27" ACD and an LG ultra fine 5k. Really hoping that with some kind of voodoo TB displays can work with eGPU's but it's a pipe dream right now. The LG 5k screen is just drop dead gorgeous, imo.

BTW, took me forever to find a RX 580 thanks to the miners causing a shortage.

I love the Ultrawides... Though I did try the LG Ultrafine 5K the other day... Brought it back after three days... The backlight burned out, so I decided to wait for version two... It was amazing while it lasted though. Now I'm looking for a monitor to go above the 38UC99. I just wish this 38UC99 had a better PPI.

Yeah, those minors are snapping up all the GPUs... I thought about investing, but I have a feeling all of this stuff will go belly up soon.

Just looked at your screen shot... So, the 5K is running off the internal graphics card (obviously since no graphics card has USB-C, for whatever reason) and the other external is running off the Mantiz? No issues with that setup?

Waiting on the Mantiz I just ordered to install these two products... MicroCenter just got in the VEGA 64 cards... Hopefully I can get this setup to work...

Hijacking this thread a little bit. Does anybody have any knowledge as to whether Apple will allow eGPUs to run directly on the native MacBook Pro display or if it will remain that you can only run to a separate display?

Everything that I've read says it only works on external displays... Let us know if you hear/see differently...

This is the sort of dock solution I wish Apple would offer.
Built into a Cinema Display would be even cooler!

iMac Pro may offer that soon enough... I love the idea of my MBP with a VEGA64 and an UltraWide LG 38UC99!

Will do. I was hoping for a plug and play situation for the built-in display because I don't want/need a monitor lol.... I'll post here if I find any info.

I hope that works. I've always stayed as far away from XFX cards as I can..

I assume Radeon Pro Duo wouldn't work because weak PSU in TB enclosure or there is other problem like no multi GPU support ?

The Venus ships with a 550W Gold PSU, packing quite a punch. @theitsage reported over at eGPU.io that it won't work in macOS but had some slight success in Windows, if memory serves.

MicroCenter guy said the XFX was the bigger company of the two cards they had... No AMD's in stock. 30 day return policy.

I'll let others chime in, but historically, XFX cards have not played nicely with macOS at all. Maybe it's not the case with your particular card though.

I've always stuck to ASUS, EVGA, PNY or Gigabyte.

thanks, I found this forum and according to post theitsage "When I tried it in Windows via eGPU, the GPU shows as two individual graphics cards. One was working while the other was having error 12. It was pretty wild."

So, looks like only one GPU is supported by Windows and for second GPU there is "not enough free resources"

Maximum Power usage for Radeon Pro Duo is around 600W after little OC 700W

so looks like can be no 2xGPU support by enclosure or unsolved Windows fault also can be bottleneck from TB3 side

What am I doing wrong... I have the Mantiz with the XFX Radeon RX 64... USB devices work, Ethernet works, USB-C is obviously working if those two are working... GPU is lit up, but High Sierra does not recognize it...

XFX cards are notorious for not working on the mac...further I'm not sure that card has native support? Let's wait for someone else to chime in for sure. @theitsage ?

@3587 Re-seat the RX Vega 64 in the slot. I got an XFX RX Vega 56 yesterday and it was a bit of a challenge to get the two feet of the GPU in place. Once it's fully situated the card should work with High Sierra beta. These RX Vega GPUs are all reference design so there's no difference between brands. The AIB cards later on will make a difference in terms of macOS compatibility.

Are you using that to power the native display??
