Liking the new maps so far, but does anyone know of a way to manually advance the direction steps (rather than taking them as they come)?

Couple small reasons why:
1) Less data is used for constant GPS tracking (maybe I'm wrong?)
2) Giving directions to someone without a smartphone

I've found that in Yelp, when you get directions to a location, it ONLY does a manual advance (you swipe the green nav signs). To get turn-by-turn you would have to re-enter the location in Apple Maps. Anybody know why?

If you're on the iPhone 4S or newer and get directions with the "Start:" field set to "Current Location", it automatically gives you spoken turn-by-turn navigation. This happens automatically when you ask Siri to give you directions to a location. If you want to see a list of the route, tap the screen once to bring up the controls and in the lower left, there's a list button.

If you don't want the spoken turn-by-turn navigation, go into the new Maps app, hit the button in the upper left (for directions), and enter something other than "Current Location" in the "Start:" field. It will look just about the same as before, but you can manually swipe left or right to see all the turns on the route.

I hope this helps!

Drop a pin in your present location.
Choose the start to be from dropped pin rather than current location.
U can the start and step through the route.

To choose the drop pin as the start point .. Click on the arrow on the top left of the screen and pick dropped pin as your start point!

Apple should have just had a short cut botton for this... A botton that selects step navigation or voice navigation!

Hope the implement this!

This worked, thanks all. Agreed that there should be some sort of option; it's not easily apparent how it works...
