only go to 5x. Use the AF button, hit set button to turn on live view, confirm/adjust focus, and the hit the shutter button. I do this all the time because you ninja/stealth grab pictures with live view mode 2. The shutter is super quiet and you can walk away and make the rest of your shutter noises elsewhere.

With your Canon EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS Zoom Lens you're not supposed to, your lens won't be damaged if you did it accidentally, but if it occurs too repeatedly your focus ring will end up to be loose (impacting your AF quickness and accuracy).
