Yes, it has indeed changed from pre-iOS 6. And yes, many have noticed. It changed when Apple removed the pre-installed Google-based Maps.app and replaced it with their own mapping "solution" in iOS 6.

We should have taken it as a sign that even the new Map icon showed moving away from Apple.
