A number of people have commented on how great they're finding using Maps on the watch.

I'm finding it utterly useless.

I've been trying to use it to give me walking directions. (I have a satnav in the car, and I'm sticking with it!) The routes it gives me are clearly for driving and I think it expects me to behave like a car because it just doesn't respond to where I am. I knew where I was going so I just followed the route without being told. It kept wanting me to go back to the start.

I looked up how to get walking directions. You can set a preference in the Maps preference pane on the iPhone settings (not the Watch settings). But that preference is not available on my phone. Presumably this is another thing that's not available to UK users?

Hmm.. I'm in Asia and the map still works great (on iPhone). I didn't have to do anything. It know from speed that I change from driving to walking and even give me walking shortcut (that you couldn't drive through). Strange if it's not working in big country like UK.

Weirdly, the preference on walking or driving has disappeared. No idea when that happened or why. Annoying!!

If I search for a location, or pick to navigate to one of my contacts, then I get to pick walking or driving. How are you trying to do it?

Apple maps gives me the same route for walking for my search, as it does for driving. Same as Google Maps. Maybe it depends on what route I'm looking for.

Mine works fine but I'm still not sold on Apple Maps... it just doesn't have the coverage of shops/businesses/bars/pubs etc that Google does which I find really limits its usefulness. I find myself copying and pasting postcodes from Google into Apple Maps. Hoping for a Google Maps watch app soon.

Google still has satellite images for where I live from 15 years ago, whilst this estate was a field. Apple Maps have some from 12 months ago. So I prefer Apple Maps... :D

I told Siri I wanted to walk somewhere last night and it gave me walking directions.

Yea, if i just say directions, it defaults to driving. If I say walking directions, then it get walking directions. I guess it's just a matter of being specific.
