I've been saying this in forums now for awhile, and I strongly believe that apple will remove the 17" macbook pro from the lineup. Either this revision, or next. They already have an 11.6" macbook air now. People want smaller and more portable computers nowadays, so I think apple will move in that direction.

a 15" macbook pro with 1920x1200 would be perfect. Remove the optical drive, add SSD and you already saved yourself enough space for a decent i7, a better dedicated GPU and more battery life.

I have a 17" MBP, and while it is good for a desktop replacement, it's not something you want to carry around campus 8 hours a day, and I strongly think people would be much better carrying around a 13" and plugging it into a 27" at home.

I disagree. I have a 15" MBP, and I want a 17" MBP soon. I'm 6' 3", built like a straw, and don't have a problem carrying around an extra pound for some 17" bliss.

And who cares about all this 1600x900 and 2048x1536 screen resolution crap. All resolutions these days suck. I want a 13" Macbook Air with 2560x1600 and a 30" Cinema display with 7680x4800. I could just imagine that...

Introducing, the new 30" Apple Cinema Display.

Starting at a fantastic price of just $15,999 inc GST.
With the new 30" Apple Cinema Display, you can see retina detail in a display that offers so many pixels, not only will you require 20/20 vision at 1/2 inch from the screen just to read standard webpage text, but you will also require not one, but FOUR $1999 each Nvidia Quadro FX5800 GPU's in SLI to enjoy this incredible display in it's full native resolution of 7680x4800.

The new 30" Retina Cinema Display. Only from Apple.

Think different!

I do agree with this. 1920x1200 I think is fine how it is. The higher the pixel count goes, the more the GPU has to work to drive it, and the battery life decreases.

I think it's amusing that we (forum members) always have to argue about something. If it's not about ODDs, it's about aspect ratios. How stupid is that???

i just bought my 13" mbp about a week ago (cause i didn't research the update ) but i am just a casual user on it and love the mbp. while i had really wanted an MBA, they didn't have any and i prefer the larger HD and use my ODD pretty regularly so not having it incorporated in to the MBP would be a little inconvenient since i try to take as few things as possible whenever i got on trips (which is pretty often).

Wrong URL

Oh, how nice to see the link to my website regarding the danish launch.

Unfortunately, your link is not working :)

I assume it's because of the danish special chars in the url, so here's a one that DOES work properly:

If you could please fix it in the blogpost, that would be great, as I get a lot of 404 visitors right now

Hahaha.

Sorry, Dick, but the 17" isn't going anywhere. You speak as if the 13" and 17" are similar in specs. The 11.6" MBA shouldn't even be mentioned on the same page. The 17" is more powerful than the iMac, in terms of expandability.

i would hate to have a missing optical drive out of the box... logic studio is like 6 dvds iirc... id hate to airdrive that. unless theyre bundling in a superdrive. in which case ill be all for it if it significantly increases battery life...
16:9 makes sense imo for the pro line. its nice for movie playback/editing and the ratio works nicely with logic. ive just started using a 1080p tv for my logic rig and im loving the new proportions.

These so called 'SSD sticks' only make sense if the laptop is thinner.

And in order to be thinner, they have to finally drop the optical drive.

As much as I would like to see this happen, I think it will still take a couple of refresh cycles before we see this.

Plus, SSD options are already available....this is really just a matter of size.

yea I seeing if I can exchange my macbook pro replacement for the new model. I hope I can if not i'm going to have to sell it on ebay or something.

You have a 14 day return period from the time in which you recieved your Mac to return it to Apple.

Numerous Apple store people have told me that they don't know any sooner than we do. And it's a rare occasion that anything is released on the same day it's announced anymore. There's usually at least a 1-2 day delay because boxes reveal specs.
/

Wrong. There's usually a delay when it's a NEW product line (such as the iPad). When it's a revision to an EXISTING product line, there usually little or no delay from the announcement (Even the 11" macbook Air, which was a dramatic redesign ... was released a day after it was announced).

I think I've used mt ODD like once in the past 3 years, and that was to install snow leapord... Just saying.

I'm not really familiar with the technical limitations of these new form SSDs but if they were going to implement these new sticks without making the laptop any thinner, do you think it would be possible for them to stack these thinner SSD modules to increase storage space?

I agree, every computer with a 16:9 aspect ratio that I've used makes me scroll up and down so much more that its annoying. I feel like there is an invisible hand hiding 1/4 of the screen or trying to look at the screen behind a picketed fence or something.

I dont know what it is but no matter how high a resolution is, it just looks and seems squashed in every day use.

I'm sure you felt the same way when it went from 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:10.

It's all about what you're 'used to'. If you used the 16:9 for a while, then when back to the 16:10, you'd probably say 'it seems too boxy and tall".

Thank you for your post, gives us hope! can't wait to see the update.

Since you are here, are you really sure the update will be on that day? can we trust your sources? thank you for dropping by Kenneth!

I really don't think the 15 inch is going to get 1920 x 1080.

My guess is the following:

13 inch: 1400
15 inch 1650
17 inch: 1920
Perhaps some models have the change to get a mate display.

The 13 inch unfortunately will come with an Intel integrated, 15 and 17 will continue with their intel / nvidia combo.

No SSD, Yes Optical. No additional USBs, or usb 3. Hard disks starting at 250 gb. Maybe the 15 and 17 inch will have the option to get an additional SSD in combination with the standard HD.
