Mark as Unread option disappeared in Macmail

After years of happy use, the "Mark as Unread" option has vanished from my mac mail. I have tried everything, but the program is not giving me the "details" or "hide" links either, so apparently there is nothing I can do to fix it.

Any suggestions as to how to solve this problem will be much appreciated, it is driving me crazy!

Right click on the message (in the left pane) and go to MARK then choose UNREAD - just like it used to be.
