Hi. Anyone else continue to find it infuriating that there’s no ’mark as unwatched’ in the Apple TV ecosystem? I’ve lost count of the number of times that, for whatever reason, I need to mark an episode or entire show as unwatched. As far as I can tell, every other system has this feature.

And don’t even get me started on the different in-movie UI operation depending on where you launched the file from or from which app. I love Apple for the most part but sometimes they drive me round the bend with their design choices. I get that we are all different and want different things, but a adding a mark as unwatched OPTION seems like basic video playing functionality to me.

When you watch an episode it does put a white tick on the episode picture leaving all unwatched episodes unticked.
However via the ATV app it does seem to of been omitted if you look via the library section, instead though if you use the search function to bring up a series it does show white ticks on all watched episodes.

I agree, I'm In the process of re-watching Mandalorian in anticipation of the new season in a couple weeks. Every time I start the next episode, it's still in the end credits. While it does seem to set the next episode properly in Up Next in the aTV app, I just have to pay a little extra attention to make sure it's not the episode I just watched.

yes, but when doing a re-watch, there's no way to tell which episodes are watched from the first time, and which episodes are watched from the current pass.

Yes indeed, but I want to mark previously watched episodes and shows as unwatched.

Ok so you can actually do this but seems only can be done via a Mac or iTunes on a PC.

Thanks for the info. That’s even more ridiculous. To be honest the library management in general sucks. Plex runs rings around it. Not what you expect from a trillion dollar company.

I am trying to watch my Big Bang Theory again, and the Apple TV keeps starting the same episode over, even though I have already washed it. Go forward and watching the next episode ends with Apple TV starting the same previous episode again.

Anyone know how to get out of this loop?

Have you tried pressing and holding the select button and marking episode as watched?

Perhaps even force close down any open app then go in to settings a restart the ATV.

The episodes have been marked as watched, which they have been many times. I can't seem to get the series to mark unwatched, to see if that corrects the problem. I apologize if my previous post was confusing.

It's counterintuitive, a bit like the case of you're holding it wrong! ;)

You can't clear a whole season in the sense of defaulting it back to zero, but what you have to do is remove the programme from 'up next' & then re-add it.

Once you do this, it doesn't matter that you have eps that are partially watched later in the season, up next always appears to follow what the last programme you watched was.

Bloody annoying if you clear an eps by mistake to find your place again, but in your case watching a whole season again, each programme will follow on from the last watched.

Thanks for the reply, Scoob. I will give it a go.

The only way to do this, as i can see, is from iTunes (or sign into AppleTV app on Catalina it should have the option??) it.. "Mark as unwatched",, go back to AppleTV, and it'll update.

Slight inconvenience, you get to the point you just not bother and manually directly play the show again from ATV.. I got use to that

Sorry to bump this old thread but this has annoyed me as well, marking shows unwatched in Itunes does not remove the check mark on the shows in the Apple tv app, only way to do it is reset the Apple tv, that will remove the check marks from every show.

Came here with this problem. Want to mark episodes as unwatched and cannot. Tried everywhere. Really annoying. I can mark things as watched, but not as unwatched.

My wife thinks I haven't watch a season of Survivor and I have. I'm in trouble! Help!
