If he "has" an iPhone 5 prototype, he should leak it anonymously as said above...or at least give another blurry spy picture. :p

pics or it didn't happen :p

it was bound to happen lol. but in all seriousness if he just leaked part of the phone. like the home button so we can tell if it is elongated would be enough.

I'm sure some people have them so on launch day there will be a series of stories reviewing the phone. I'd guess Walt Mossberg has one too.

He won't leak it (or he will leak things he is allowed to leak) because 1. he probably had to sign a pretty serious "shut your mouth until we say you can talk about it" agreement with Apple and 2 he wants other things early from Apple so he can publish stories early and get more readers.

I highly doubt Marc would have an iPhone 5 prototype. It's all bs, really people don't believe everything you see on the internet.

Do you think some writers get them early to review? Has Apple done that before?

I don't know this Gruman guy except what I have read here recently. So I don't know if he's a respected name in the tech writing world or just a guy with a blog and twitter account.

Their Mr. X seems to be a pretty high up source. Maybe Mr. X has a prototype, and is disseminating info through Mark? I doubt that Mark personally has an iPhone 5 prototype.

He writes for 9to5Mac. Apple has never AFAWK given a prototype device for review. The only way I can see this happening is if Apple releases the iPhone on announcement day and wants some reviews out there.

Their was a tweet by Marc last week that said that he knows someone within 5 minutes from his house that has an iPhone 5. He was supposed to have a story about this last week but he then deleted his tweets and asked for people who tweeted him to also delete the tweets referencing that conversation.

Apple only hands out review units once the device has actually been announced and generally a week or two before it set to launch. Last year the iPhone 4 was released on a Thursday and reviews came out on Wednesday night.

EDIT:

This ended up being his big news.

Thanks. That makes more sense.

I had no idea who this guy was, and after reviewing all the apps he's "developed" i have no interest in finding out any further who he is...

All of us posting about his BS tweets is exactly what he wants. He's an attention-starved troll, obviously.
