Mark on iPhone

Hi everyone,

I noticed last week an extremely small mark on the top left corner of the screen. It extends over the black area around the scene and is curved, it is not on the bezel. The phone has never been dropped, so it's not a crack. I removed the screen protector and it can't be felt at all. When the screen is on they are little black dots, when the screen is off they're white. Any idea? Will this affect resale value?

I'm honestly at a loss, it's protected at all times and I'm 100% sure it's never been dropped etc. I know they can't be dead pixels because they're visible when the screen is off. Ignore the screen protector bubbles, they are there from trying to work out what the mark is. It's only been there a couple of weeks.

as you said those can't be dead pixels. the only thing I can think of at the moment is some kind of dirt or little fragments under the screen. Again, this is the only thing that makes sense to me

If you zoom in to the top most left of the screen, you can see the small dots.

Ya, I think you need to show us with the screen protector off of the phone. I agree with the others. From the pics shown, it does look like you got dust or a fiber under your screen protector.

I see the dots; if this is under the glass, my guess is that air pockets developed in the lamination. Traditionally, a "liquid optically pure adhesive,"or LOCA, is used in the lamination of screen to front glass. I've seen that when the two planes separate at the corner, where it is most susceptible, air pockets develop in the sandwiched LOCA layer and appear "white." Though I'm not sure about the white dots appearing black when on; that is strange. Sent from my iPad.

I have removed the screen protector completely. Whatever it is under the screen. I reused the same screen protector while I have ordered more, hence the poor installation resulting in bubbles.

I'll take some more photos without the screen protector and post them in a couple of days.

So here are the photos with the rings around. The red rings are the issue, the green ring is showing a piece of dirt under the protector. I understand that they look similar, but they aren't.

As mentioned, I have previously taken the screen protector off. I also thoroughly cleaned the screen. It cannot be felt at all, even rubbing my fingernail along it.

To all the people who are commenting taking the p***, I can assure you that I know the difference between dirt / bubbles and the protector and the marks that I am concerned with. Having owned plenty of iPhones and iPads, this is not normal. Any useful suggestions?

What other suggestions are there?
If you're under warranty they should take care of it.

Thanks for the response. As per my the first thread, I just wanted to know exactly what it is and what may have caused it?

I'm going to take it to Apple and also have applecare+ however am hoping that I won't have to pay as it's not something that was caused by myself.

I don't think its something caused by the user. Looks like either a screen defect or dirt under the glass.
And since there's no physical damage or any dents or scrapes on it I don't think you'll have a prob getting it serviced free of charge.

Now that you pointed them out I can see... it's so minor that it wouldn't bother me, personally. If it bothers you, see if Apple will replace.

Thanks for the replies, it's not so much that it bothers me, but I'm upgrading the the iPhone 6 soon and am planning on selling my 5s and wasn't sure if it would affect resale value or not.

Would it be best seeing if I can get it replaced by Apple, or just sell it online (eBay etc) and list that it has a small mark?
