I have both an iP7 and 7+, both 256gb and both with the same apps and on iOS 10.2

The iP7 is much smoother especially when double clicking the home button to change apps and it is also much quicker to go back to the home screen when in an app and pressing the home button to go back to the springboard.

With the 7+ I have even tried a DFU restore and set up as new but to no avail. Everything is smoother and quicker on the iP7 and it is driving me up the wall.

I have already had my 7+ replaced for a sealed new one and I think the replacement 7+ is better but still way behind the 7

Any help would be greatly appreciated before I order another 7+ especially as I have nearly 200gb of music downloaded, really don't want to have to do that again.

Thanks

Will

There seems to be different experiences with the 7+, and I'm not sure why. I've tested, side by side, my 7+ with a 7 and I don't see any difference whatsoever. Battery life, definitely better on the 7+, hands down.

But with animations and smoothness, smooth sailing with both devices. I didn't even set up the 7+ as new. Been using the same iCloud backup I've had for the past 3 iPhones I've had.

There is a huge difference between mine. The biggest problems with my 7+ is the jumping when I double press the home button to change apps and the delay between hitting the home button and the app closing, the animations when going from an app to the home screen also jumps.

Looks like I'm going to be getting yet another new phone, it is a pain having to download all my music again and again. Why doesn't Apple Music just have a 'download all music' tab? At least I'm not going to run out of chargers, cables and headphones.

U.K.
I know the 6 and 6 plus used to have a different feel to them, with a delay in text scrolling and a blurry effect on the 6 plus. That was due to how the phone renders an image at 1242 × 2208 and then downscales to 1080p to fit the phone.

It's still not as clear as the 6 but it definitely got improved around iOS 10 and general performance is much better since 10.1.

I would try a software restore via iTunes first, and set it up as a new phone. Old backups have been known to cause slow downs in the past, especially if the backup is very old and full of junk. Also, Apple don't give you a new charger and headphones when they swap your phone, they just swap the phone directly with one that comes in a special box. So you're not getting another sealed unit.

Im pretty sure all 7 plus behave like this, yes it is irritating but hopefully a fix is coming soon.
I would not bother swapping the phone jus hold tight and deal with it. Thats what I'm doing.

I do oddly feel that my 6s appears faster than my 7+. It's really strange. I also think I like the resolution better on the smaller phone too.

I don't know, everyone has their own experiences.

As I said I have tried a DFU restore and set up as new already and it didn't help.

I would never accept anything other than a new sealed unit if the phone is 6 months or less old. Yes I know they try to give you a reconditioned phone but I made myself quite clear about my statutory rights and they give me a new sealed phone. I have done it numerous times already.

As it happens today it is just easier for me to go through my bank insurance, I have unlimited claims and I don't have to pay anything for the phone and the insurance itself comes free with my account.

I rang them just 20 minutes ago and they will have a new sealed unit with me this evening. Hopefully this one will be better.

Well I have ordered the replacement now so too late, the phone will be here later today.

As for Super Sic, he was something else to look at and quite funny especially when he did the doctors dangle.

Because it's a streaming music service. If you only play your own music, locally, why pay for AM?

I download the music to play when I'm off line or there is no service/intermittent service, hence the reason I get the highest storage I can. Although with my iPad Pro 9.7 I only went for the 128gb because it is used in the house most of the time but both 7/7+ are 256gb

The comments about the animations will still be present in your replacement 7+. It's a software bug. iOS 10.3 beta fixes it to some extent but I don't believe there is anything wrong with your phones. Apple just needs to work on the bugs in the software to smooth it up

How are you claiming insurance for a defective phone?

Also, if you do it too much there's a chance Apple will point blank refuse to give you anymore units and claim you're defrauding them. Remember each and every transaction you have with Apple is documented next to your account information. Can't be coincidence that only you have defective devices.

I think it simply comes down to you having an issue with the phone itself, not because you're getting defective units. Either get a 7 or go elsewhere. Your 'statuary rights' aren't going to keep getting you new, sealed phones.

First point, it is part of my 'private banking' and my bank doesn't care if it is defective or smashed, I call them and they send me a new one, the person delivering the new phone puts the old one in a bag and it is sealed and I sign it. They don't take anything but the phone. Also how could I be defrauding them? They get the defective phone back.

Second point, it an almost £1000 device, if it doesn't work as it should it gets replaced. If Apple don't want people returning their devices then they should have better quality control. Returning a product doesn't affect your consumer rights.

Third point, you obviously didn't read the part where I said I have an iP7 as well. Not all 7+ phones have a problem, my friend has a 7+ and it is as smooth as my iP7

Am extremely keen to know how ur new fone performs regarding the animations keep us posted.
I reckon the new one will be the same. Was your mates phone running Beta ?
Had my previous 6s Plus since launch and it took roughly 6 months worth of updates before it was like butter.
My 7 Plus is a bit of a joke though regarding animations.
[doublepost=1486307707][/doublepost]Using Assistive Touch makes it smooth at the expense of lag

I will report back later. My mates 7+ is also on 10.2

I did another DFU restore to 10.2.1 earlier and no difference.

Been at the Apple forum and have read many pages of people with similar problems and the solution seems to be the latest beta.
Will22 maybe ur mate has turned on Reduce Animations or is using Assistive Touch.
I can't wait to hear your first impressions on how the new phone is doing, probably best to give it a day or two after set up before giving final judgment.

That's not a bug. It's part of the new iOS 10 APIs. The jump is an animation switch. E.g. You can slow down the double press and you'll see it be like the phone is going to the home screen, and then it will jump to multitasking. It's designed his way specifically. The first press automatically invokes a home screen call, and the second press overrides it to multitasking.

All 7 Plus devices do it. Why you think a replacement device would fix this is well beyond me.

Got the phone at 8pm last night and I used the iCloud backup from yesterday afternoon and straight away it was clear that it was faster and smoother. Will update again on Wednesday after two days usage. My friends phone had the same settings as mine.

So you're saying that Apple purposely made it slow and stuttering. Android must have been doing it right all along years back when they made slow devices with bad animations.

I'm no Apple apologist so I expect my £919 device to be worth it. No difference than with anything else I buy.

The first 7+ also had a slight screen problem but you could only see it when there was a total white screen and if the rest of the phone was okay then I would never have even considered having it replaced.

It is still not quite as smooth as my 7 but it is more than okay. At least now when I raise the phone and lay my finger on the home button it doesn't take nearly a second to unlock, when I go from an app to the home screen it is smoother and way quicker. There is still a small jump when changing apps but it is very small, not like it was where it jumped up so much that half the app card was missing.

Hopefully the next update will sort the small jump which is the only thing bothering me.
Sounds like the new one is performing just like mine which is reassuring.
Regarding Simoncelli I used to love watching him after a bad start making his way through the pack whilst forcing the front end, pure class.

He really was fun to look at and a nicer guy you couldn't meet in the paddock, pure class.
