Marking photos by swiping?

I got iPhone 4 last week and noticed that when you select multiple photos you have to tap on each photo whilst on my old iPhone 3G, i used to swipe my finger through the photos and they would be selected. Why is this feature not in iPhone 4? It would make it easier to select the photos. 🙁
