Mass PC Disconnection

So, I was at my first day at University and I looked in finder and there were around 37 shared computers in Finder, 20 of which were Macs. As I was looking through all the computers, the list suddenly refreshed and all the PCs were gone from the list. What happened? Is it a Macbook Pro or an OS X problem? Put my anxiety to rest please lol.

Anyone know what happened? I just don't like it when threads go unanswered especially when other people are searching for the same question, find this thread, and see it without answers

those Macs and PCs probably had file sharing turned on. they might have disappeared because of a number of reasons: wifi range, they went to sleep, they lost internet connection.

When you tried it browse them, the list refreshed.
