Hi,

I own a 2011 MBA and since quite a while the fan goes completely crazy.
I have tried everything and will buy a new notebook because of this issue.

Before I do this though, I thought ask whether anyone of you has any last idea / advice?

Browsing in a couple of tabs at the moment (including images and/or 480p-720p videos), nothing else open and those are the stats: 150°F / 65°C / 6000 rpm. Normal room temperature. Sounds like a jet is taking off.

Image editing in Photoshop or similar tasks will do the same.

Other times, the fan is at 2500 rpm (more or less silent) and 180°F / 82°C. Just don't get it.

Tried different browsers, deactivating flash, resetting smc / pram, SMC Fan control, iStat Menus.
Also opened the MBA: fan looks clean.
Running macOS Sierra 10.12.3.

Oh, and the activity monitor shows a CPU which is not busy at all.
There are no tasks which would cause the fans to go up like that.

Thanks so much for any advice!

Thanks for your reply, yes trackpad works fine! Actually everything works fine, also speed/hardware wise.

It may be worth taking the machine to a place that can perform board level repairs and have them check the sensors.

My mid-2013 MBA I had got liquid inside and the board had to be cleaned and some capacitors replaced to stop the constant high fan speed.

I bought an early 2015 MBA for parts and I discovered that almost everything worked except the fan would spin at full speed after being on for about a minute and would not slow down. I took this machine to the same shop that worked on the mid 2013 and he replaced some chip on the board. I picked it up yesterday and it runs perfectly.
