ok, so when the ipod says do not disconnect, it really means do not disconnect.
unfortunately, i didn't realize it said that until afterwards. now my catalog b structure is corrupt, and apple's disk utility won't fix it. i tried using techtools pro and when it wanted to restructure the catalog, it was to get rid of over half the stuff. i hit cancel when it asked me. i really do need the data off of it. what are my other options? the guy at the apple store mentioned using terminal to do a batch copy, but i'd like some feedback on what to do, and how to do it.
i really do need the data that's on it, and i know i should have a back up somewhere, but i don't, and now it's my problem.

thanks,
Ryan

edit!- i used disk warrior, and it just rebuilt the directory on my ipod. it works perfectly now!

I'm happy to hear that Disk Warrior was able to fix our problem. You definitely need to backup your data.
