Mavericks Disk Utility RAID 0, 1 and JBOD. How reliable?

I was considering getting an external storage bay that uses Mavericks Disk Utility to set up and administer RAID 0, 1 or JBOD and not a hardware RAID controller.



How good an idea is a setup like this? confused: I have never had a problem with hardware RAID . Has anyone used Mac's software RAID solution and had good or bad luck?

I've used it before, though I think you may be better suited with a hardware implementation.
