Another thing I noticed is that USB 3 based SSD drives that run on the ASMedia chipset used to get me around 250MB-350 MB/sec under ML. Under Mavericks, I get 350-400MB/sec. It's a massive increase on the same hardware.

Just finished upgrading my main workstation iMac, and I have to say that Mavericks feels very responsive and fast. Definitely a very good upgrade!

I agree with most of the comments on this thread. Mavericks looks and feels faster. Love the chance to post directly to Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn from the Notification Center, and the tabbed Finder.

Safari beats the competition out. Super *snappy* on my system. I gave up on Chrome. I don't want an app that constantly lurks into my files.

The only thing I noticed is that it creates several files under Crash Reporter, but I have yet to experience a single crash.

I don't know if this is something I should start worrying about.

All the best,

^MPY

I have noticed a few things with Mavericks not sure if others can relate.

  • Mail doesn't seem to be working properly with Exchange Server. Emails do not appear to be synchronising / stopping / manually having to proceed a synchronise.
  • Virtual Box Doesn't want to boot any VM's
  • Adium no longer wants to connect into our Microsoft Lync Server. I suspect it has something to do with this
  • Also it appears to have destroyed my time machine backup. I have had to reformat the time capsule and re back everything up.

Other then that, i am loving the tabbed finder, the UI and it feels a little faster also.

It is an API and the software needs to be aware of it

I don't think that's right. I tried several OLD apps that haven't been updated lately (definitely not for 10.9) such as Clipwrap and according to Activity Monitor, they DO enter App Nap when not in use.

If i update from Mountain Lion...would this also update my iTunes 11.05 to 11.1.1? confirm please! i wanna stay at 11.05 because i've been reading alot of issues with 11.1.1!

Also, will this affect my bootcamp partition?

You're incorrect.

Just because there is an API doesn't mean the app needs to support it... and in fact kind of defeats the purpose of the whole thing.

Some apps are allowed exclusions to App Nap - such as music players playing music in the background. App Nap is applied to apps by default except when the App needs to do stuff whilst backgrounded and communicates this to OS X via the API.

Power Efficiency
The power technologies in OS X Mavericks were built with the capabilities of modern processors and the demands of modern apps in mind. The new power technologies work together to achieve substantial power savings, while maintaining—and in some cases even improving—the responsiveness and performance of your Mac.
These technologies are rooted in a few key principles:
Just work for existing apps. No changes to applications should be needed, though small changes may facilitate additional power savings.
• Keep as many processor cores idle as possible given the demand for CPU.
• When on battery power, only do work that the user is requesting or that is absolutely essential.Core Technologies Overview 8
OS X Mavericks

The document then immediately goes on to detail both App Nap and Timer Coalescing.

And this one:
http://giovanni.bajo.it/post/52861683543/how-os-x-mavericks-works-its-power-saving-magic

it looks like that there is a per-app opt-out through APIs for the developer, or through the command-line for power users, and Apple is asking developers to report issues during the beta phase.

Mavericks is a huge improvement but it's clear that the GM still has a number of bugs and general fiddly bits.

A few I've noticed:

1. Elevation gesture in Maps is awkward, often bounces back instead of moving.
2. iBooks page change animations are too fast; looks absolutely horrible and makes it unusable for me. I'd like a continuous scrolling option, too (as on iOS).
3. Finder icon mode size could be adjusted by pinching in Lion. Disappeared in ML and still gone in MVKS. I'd like to see it come back, the tiny slider control is too fiddly.
4. Menu bar icons won't show their menus if you click one item then hover over the rest. You need to click each item individually to make it show its menu. You can just hover for the App's menus, though.
5. Need to keep entering AppleID information after update. First iCloud asked for my password, then I got email notifications about signing in to the account, then I had to sign in to iBooks, then iTunes. Single sign-on would be swell.

How did you decide that these 4 letters were the most important letters to use to create that abbreviation?

Sounds like the OS X release I've been waiting for. :)

I loved OS X Snow Leopard. OS X Lion brought a host of changes, some of which I didn't agree with, but overall quite an update and kind of a new direction with the apps and taking queues from the mobile word. OS X Mountain Lion perfected Lion when it came to the feature implementations, especially some controversial ones. And OS X Mavericks when it comes to performance. :)

Finally a new "Snow Leopard", haha.

How is scrolling (mostly webpages) on the 2012 15 inch base rMBP? This is the improvement I most look forward to.

Good to hear it sounds to good! I'm really looking forward to improved OpenGL, and CL performance.

I'll be ordering the following items in preparation to install 10.9 when it becomes available.

Will breathe even more life into this system. :)

That's probably UASP kicking in
