Warning! Apple Mavericks is corrupting external hard drives - wiping them clean and reformatting them with little warning. There is currently no solution. My 3TB Seagate music server is gone. Reformatted as MyBook and EFI partitions.

WD not the only drives affected, although I did have the WD Drive Manager software on my affected Mac Mini - could this be the culprit?

The drives aren't the problems.

The problem is WD's crapware. If you have installed it, get rid of it as soon as possible. And never again install some vendor specific software.

I use a Seagate Free Agent GoFlex 500gb external hard drive and backed up my laptop on Friday following the Mavericks upgrade last Saturday. No problems encountered so far, although, it did take about 45 minutes to do a full backup.

I decided to leave it a week in case I encountered any bugs/issues after the Mavericks download.
