Hi

in Quicktime's movie inspector here is the spec of a film can you please tell me why this plays in itunes an not on the apple tv

Format: H.264, 1280 x 544, Millions
AAC, 5.1 (C L R Ls Rs LFE), 48.000 kHz

FPS: 23.98

SIZE: 1280 x 544 pixels

You need to look at the bitrate. I've had files play as high as 7500 kbps, but to be safe total bit rate needs to be around 5000 kbps.

You can use Mediainfo to check the profile of the encode. ATV has the horsepower to play Main@3.1 and in some cases High@3.1 but it needs to be the "right" high profile settings.

Most downloads in mkv format are High@4.1 which can't be played or synced to ATV. iTunes and QT will play without difficulty if the computer is fast enough.

The ATV can actually handle quite high bitrates if the encoding is not to "tough".
