Yea, I think I see what you are saying. New hardware release and new OS release don't always line up and this can sometimes affect what is "in the box". However, I disagree with some of your points as it has not been my experience nor has it been the experience of people I know.

I also don't think it matters much anyway. I believe there's already a backlog of BTO orders now let alone next week. So chances are if you order then you won't get an ML based system.

I just ordered my new 27" iMac BTO within the last hour. It is due to arrive mid to late next week. It should be here either just before or just after Mavericks. But I doubt it will come with it.

And I'm fine with that.

The main focus of Mavericks is battery life and power efficiency on MacBooks. Obviously this isn't applicable to desktop Macs, so the update isn't that big a deal to be honest, unless you really care about power consumption on a desktop. The only thing that I'm looking forward to is tabbed Finder windows and a slight speed boost thanks to some under-the-hood meddling, but other than that this isn't that big an update - you needn't worry.

Hey! Congratulations! I hope to be joining you soon. :)

I'm curious how the tabbed Finder will stack up against TotalFinder, which offers a dual pane split finder which is great for moving files from locations or comparing finder folders that don't require something heavier like DeltaWalker or Visual Differ.

I'm excited about Books as there are some books I'd like to sometimes read on my Mac rather than iPad or iPhone.

Also excited about Maps and sending directions to phone. I often look something up at home but then need the directions on the go.

As far as under the hood, really excited about Safari minimizing all activity of other tabs or of the app entirely when in the background.

I'm curious to see how Safari passwords works, but I am a fairly dedicated 1Password user and just upgraded to version 4.
