I'm trying to figure out the best way to increase the RAM I have now (4Gb)
I see single chips of 8Gb and 4Gb available but I thought it was best to add in pairs? Crucial also has a 8Gb kit (2x4Gb) plus also lists the individual chips.
    I have a 2.5Ghz i5. Right now it has 2 2Gb chips in it.
    Thanks for any ideas

The 2011 model will handle 16GB just fine. I'm running 2x8GB chips from Crucial if I recall correctly.

It is best to add in pairs, technically, if you want the best memory throughput. You'll only notice the difference if you run memory-intensive benchmarks. If you add an 8GB chip you'll have 10GB total, and the increased amount of RAM will have a positive effect on your system.

Thanks. I'm thinking 8Gb may be enough since all I really do is use safari and sometimes windows and view pdfs.
Crucial seems to have better prices that OWC, not sure if one is considered better than the other
