I have a program called data rescue that I am using to recover a crashed maxstore 233gb external. It stops in the middle of the recovery, anybody have any ideas of another way to recover this drive? Has anyone ever tried the "repair" button on the disk utility? I heard that might actually erase the drive if it is unsuccesfull. The drive will mount, but will not show on the finder, and when I plug it in, it says "this disk is not readable by this computer", but is shows up on the computers disk utility. I really don't want to pay someone $1300 to recover this thing.:)

The repair feature won't erase the drive however it'll probably be less successful than Data Rescue. Sorry mate, but short of going to a professional I'm not sure there's much more you can try. By the way, if you cool the drive down you may be able to get slightly further into the recovery process.
