How did you get your HD to show how much capacity was left? Mine only shows the total capacity :(

Finder -> View -> Show View Options -> Show Item Info

This will be mine once I change my old desktop:

Try reducing text size down to 10 pt (same place as Show Item Info)...
Thanks for your advice, but that doesn't help either.

Here's mine, if it helps.
I made my settings identical to yours, but still I can't get the "space remaining". What version of Tiger are you people running, and are you guys an admin of your mac?

Hmmm... weird... works fine here...

What happens if you position the label to the Right instead of the Bottom?
I tried that. I think it may have something to do over whether you're an admin or not. Are you an admin user?

Yes. I'll check my non-admin account...

Edit: Quite right. When logged in as a standard user I don't get the free space info on the boot drive... I get it for the externals, though... :)

Must be a permissions thing...

Thought so. I'm not an admin, so I can't get that, I guess. I wonder why though. If I click on my HD, I can find out how much is left anyway. Strange...
Thanks for your help, anyhow.

Non-admins don't have access to that kind of power? Strange.
I think if you mess around with ownership and permissions, you can get it to work though. This is because I can see how much space is left on different volumes, and removable drives.
