The iPhone 5 needs a wider display if the screen is going to get any larger.
Lengthening the screen alone would not be a good solution.

The iPhone 5 needs a wider display if the screen is going to get any larger.

I think an AR closer to 16:9 makes sense for a smaller device (sub 8"), because as a video consuming device, HD picture takes up more of the screen.

I never operate a touchscreen phone with one hand.
And I guess that is how most people break their phones.

I use my HTC one one handed. It requires a little shifting once in a while but it's entirely doable. And once in a rare while I'll get an accidental palm press.
Nothing that's a deal breaker for the benefits of a lager screen.
Don't forget that apple thinks the iPad mini is usable with one hand. Usable. Not just for holding. They say so right in their video for it.

Also thumb typing one handed on a larger phone is painfully slow. Thumb typing is ideally a two handed thing. Swiping is great for one handed use. I'm all for an iPhone with a larger screen but they need to add swiping to the age old keyboard.
It's actually a pleasure to swipe type. It's so smooth and fast.
Suggestion bar really helps too with swiping and this is something apple will have to think about. I don't think it's enough to just add swiping. Sometimes the swipe trail is very similar to other words. And it helps that there is a bar to pick the right word you mean. For example "fast fat and day" have similar trails. All three of those words come up when I swipe the word 'fast'. The default word will be entered into my message but I can still tap on the suggestion bar for any of the other two and it'll automatically replace it before moving onto the next word. It works brilliantly.
Kii keyboard BTW.

I can't type "well" one handed on my GS4 without resorting to a less secure grip. Also, some of the navigation bits on some apps are out of reach for my thumb, but the GS4 makes up for it in other ways.
I have no desire to see a 5" iPhone but I think Apple could go as high as 4.5" and still maintain one handed use to an extent that eludes the HTC One and Galaxy S4, with only hobbits and children being overly alienated.
Me, at least. I love the Retina 9.7" screen of my iPad. Perfect for on-couch reading / web.
That is what I was saying, the S3's screen is perfect. I am actually buying another one today I am going to try and stick with it this time and sell my 5.

Same here. I can easily use my Galaxy S4 one handed using this method but where it gets a little sketchy is the G-Note and up.
i'm a phablet addict, and after using many phablets i can say that "with bigger phones come bigger batteries"🙄, the Note series offer's the best battery life, it can run almost 36-48 hours on moderate usage. so i hereby officially declare that" apple was wrong"🙄

The note 2 might have a good battery life (I've heard it does) but the original note's battery life is rubbish.
for me it is the screen size
I just bought a Sony Xperia ZL (5" screen) because of the screen size (and I love Androids "gesture typing"), I am not a small person but i used the iPhone with both hands as now the Xperia ZL.
I keep the iPhone 5 just to test and to play with iOS 7.

o come on, it's a 3 year old phone, samsung faced many difficulties selling that phone, had bad screen, too big (at that time), s pen not responsive enough, etc. samsung's not even selling it anymore.

There is nothing wrong with the note one's screen. That's the best thing about the device. Also the original note did well, hence the reason why the note 2 was released.
Yea I have the note 1 for now it seems. My service provider is offering me an early upgrade to move to an LTE tariff. It means I'd have to upgrade my phone. If I take them up I'm looking at the HTC one or GS4. I think I prefer the HTC one but the S4 has better specs.

I'd disagree. I'd say 5" is perfectly ideal. However, after using the Note 2 for several months.. it felt a big hefty. I slightly prefer my S4's 5" screen to my HTC One's slightly smaller display.
