They said the AirPower was dead.
They posted it on Friday, 3 days before April 1.
Apple did not release anything to the press, everything was so quiet, total e-mail to TechCrunch.

Apple knows how many customers are waiting for this product as early as September 2017.
The product was supposed to go out a year ago but every time Apple delayed its launch.

A week ago, Apple found a picture of the AirPower together with iPhone XS,
On the packaging of AirPods 2 there is a picture of the AirPower and write that it supports it,
Last January it was reported that Apple began to manufacture the AirPower and a week ago it was reported that the AirPower should go on sale this month!

Since when are the reports lying?
Everything that reports on the Internet happens!
We knew what the iPhone X would look like, we knew there would be no design change on iOS12, we knew there would be 3 new iPhones in 2018, we knew there would be an iPhone XR with LCD screen ...

Apple does not cancel products!
They want us to forget all the delays the AirPower product has.

I believe it will happen

The AirPower is coming

I'm sorry if my English is not good enough.

Your English is fine. It's your premise that's "not good enough". The AirPower isn't coming Monday. Or Tuesday. Or Wednesday. Or Ever. Apple killed it.

*IF* this is a true AAPL-led April fool's joke, then truly they've lost their way if prioritizing Animoji's and April Fool's Jokes is the new order.

It wouldn't surprise me that this was supposed to be claimed as dead ON April 1. That being said. If this was an April Fools joke, and mistakenly done early, they should have walked it back and admitted it. Customers are going elsewhere now. If this had been Apr 1, they could hold people to buying from them instead of seeing the "news" and going elsewhere.

Overall, I doubt it was an April 1 joke.

Google and Microsoft have already made bigger April 1 jokes in the past.

About products that were already over a year late?

I suppose anything is possible, but making a joke like this would be a huge gamble. Unless it turns out to be transcendently amazing, the real joke will be that Apple delayed a mediocre product for over a year only to delay it even more to make a mediocre joke.

I doubt very seriously Apple is playing a joke. It is dead and everyone who was waiting for it needs to mourn and move on with their lives.

It is so random that Apple published it 3 days before April 1 ..
It's not something you discover in one day.
And even after they launched the airpods with wireless charging.

All reports said the AirPower will be released this month. No one thought it was canceled.
How does that make sense?

For sure. But (and I know this may be a stretch), AAPL is (was) different. They were once the focused providers of unbelievably good function over form. They were the ones who delivered unbelievable hardware so OTHERS could provide jokey content. Others focused on the fashion/form. If this were a joke, any taste left in the mouths of folk who are left thinking Apple dropped the ball and made a design mistake would far outweigh any PR "benefit" from having pulled off a joke like this. Call me kooky. :)

It is not mediocre product. There is no such thing for any company.

This explains what one engineer who has worked on wireless charging suspects the issue was...

Are you saying that a company has never released a product that turned out to be mediocre?

That was my understanding as well based on what I’ve read and seen. It was just a really tough engineering problem. Apple gave it a shot and ultimately decided it wasn’t worth it anymore.

Personally I don’t care if it’s an “April’s fool” joke. I think think they killed it. I don’t think any less of them and if it didn’t meet expectations it was the best decision. To me they still provide products that delivers excellent firm over function. With hundreds of millions of customers, YMMV.

As someone alluded to a few posts ago, would Apple really risk people buying other chargers for 3 days and then say April Fool, here’s AirPower!!!!. Seems like that would be too risky.

Apple released an -official- statement by Dan Riccio, I’m fairly confident a VP with Apple would not make some ‘joke’ about the Airpower. It obviously is not coming to fruition, and nor do I see Apple treating this as a joke at all. Come Monday, there won’t be any Airpower whatsoever.

I never really saw the appeal. Surely there's 24 hours in the day in which to power devices individually rather than having 3 all at once on a mat.

Having said that, I think mats are useful - it takes less effort to plonk a phone down on a mat than to find its cable and charge through USB on a wall. Mine is on 24/7 even at night when I'm in bed.

Purely coincidental that April Fools Day is near. What Apple did, and somewhat poorly, was do what is known as a "Friday News Dump". If you want to try to somewhat bury a story, you release the news late on a Friday, when news staffs are heading home, and you won't have wall-to-wall coverage over the weekend. General public taking less notice.

Only reason I can think of a relatively early Friday news dump is stock market reasons, since some people might see the news as material relevant to stock price and needs to give everyone same access to information.

Compared to MSoft & Google, couldn't agree more. Compared to Apple's 2012 & prior era.....my mileage is indeed varying.

Perhaps it had more to do with it being the last business/working day of March and also the first quarter of the year. It was also a Friday, which is often a day when news that someone doesn't really want to get that much attention (at least in the mainstream) gets dumped.

Nope, I wish it were the case, but the chances are zero. That's not how Apple is run.

Another rumor that I’ve read in regards to this is that Apple will still debut a wireless charging device soon, but not call it AirPower (for obvious reasons). I still don’t think they would wait three days between cancelling AirPower and debuting a different device and exclaim April Fools!!! Also don’t think they would scrap the name for a different-form-factor device.

Wait a minute guys........January 4th?? Hmm.....You mean April 1st.

IMHO I think this would be next to impossible for apple to renege on this. They said AirPower was done. That means it done. They would have no credibility if they went back now.

Just a way a lot of the rest of the world writes dates -- it's still April 1st, 2019.
