This is a ridiculous statement.
Apple would not make an announcement about a major product at a Keynote and then proclaim it as cancelled nearly 2 years later as a joke on March 29th. That would merely encourage the return of 1000’s of AirPods and drive other customers to purchase wireless chargers from other suppliers.
The only April fools are the idiots that believe this story.
For the record, the communication that AirPower was cancelled came from Dan Riccio, Apple's senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.

Return of 1000's AirPods?

Another rumor that I’ve read in regards to this is that Apple will still debut a wireless charging device soon, but not call it AirPower (for obvious reasons). I still don’t think they would wait three days between cancelling AirPower and debuting a different device and exclaim April Fools!!! Also don’t think they would scrap the name for a different-form-factor device.

This will happen. I don't expect it to be soon. Given the experience with AirPower, they will wait until they have 1 million units made, all regulatory approval in place, on store shelves before they finally announce. No more pre-announce, they know any kind of pre-announcement on a AirPower-like charger would be met with skepticism. It's going to be a "here's our new charger, you can buy it RIGHT NOW on the Apple Store" kind of announcement.

AirPower name is forever tarnished, but the tech will live on. It will come, I would guess between 1-2 years.

When I read the news, my first thought was April Fools, but the reality is slowly sinking in... Guess we'll be 100% sure tomorrow...

The next wireless charging for apple with be the ability to charge Airpods with the iPhone and charge the iPhone and Airpods with Macbooks (lid open OR closed).

No AirPower for us... Guess I'll read one of the 50 "now that AirPower is dead, these are the alternatives"-articles...
