I've looked at the beatsbydre.com website and looked at the different headphones. The only pair of headphones where they talk about sound as intended are the Studio ones, and it's clear that they're talking about Dr. Dre and his music specifically, not artists in general.

Could you link to a page where they claim what you say they do?

Sure.

After 25 years, Dr. Dre was tired of spending months on a track only to have his fans hear it on weak, distorting earbuds. Two years and hundreds of prototypes later, Beats Studio headphones are the icons that bring you sound the way it was originally intended.

I'd also like to emphasize and point out this part:

"...Two years and hundreds of prototypes later..."

The Beats must be good.

Dr. Dre intends you to hear the music through the headphones that will get him a huge royalty cheque? Colour me surprised...

Have you listened to them? Have you listened to headphones from a reputable manufacturer?

I have, and Beats are awful.

There's a reason why the only Monster product anyone on Head-Fi ever recommends is the Monster Turbine Pro - because it's the only one that isn't overpriced ****.

Who cares what people think? I don't understand the fascination with defending any one product that you own. If you want it then buy it ... no questions asked.

This could apply to Beats by Dr. Dre too, you know. What are your reactions on this observation?

My reaction is I don't care. If a person likes them, great. If they don't and prefer something else, then great also. I don't see where there needs to be a debate about it at all.

An audiophile spending $400 at a pair of headphones only to find out it's not as it's advertised ("Produces the sound the way the artists intended").

Then Monster could have been sued. I'm sure someone who's willing to spend $400 for an earphone can definitely sue them.

But where are the people who sues?

Sue? Seriously? You just take them back to the store for a full refund. That's what I did with some $200+ Shure in-ears a few years back.

Not necessarily. The prototype that made it into production only had to be better than the hundreds of other failed attempts. That's no objective guarantee that it's good when compared to the competition. That's also no guarantee that the product provides value for money. Of course, it depends on how you define, "value for money". I know little about marketing, but to my untrained eyes, Beats seem more like an aspirational or "lifestyle" product, rather than something looking to be judged on technical merit alone. So perhaps they can be said to provide, "value". The value is just not what you think it is.

Buyer's remorse? Looking for validation? Wondering if the emperor really has no clothes? Company stockholder? :) Heaven knows.

The post is rather pointless as it could be used to describe plenty of products in our daily life.
Chevy vs Mercedes
Vizio vs Samsung TV
etc

truth is you aren't going to spend any more than the value you place on that product.

In your mind is it a good deal for you to buy this MacBook over that HP ?
When you look at a product you may see something completely different than another.
If it doesn't make sense then you're not going to buy it..... it doesn't make sense to;)

Where do you put your value? Price is almost never the issue.

I understand the appeal of Beats. But its not for me. I don't like the sound, or style. I much prefer Bowers & Wilkins headphone offerings. The sound and style is more to my liking. I also have a pair of Senneheiser hd555, and audio Technica m50 they both are great for what they are. I use my B&W's more often because they are more portable, sound pleasing , designed well.

Just use what you like. Sometimes its more for aesthetics.. thats really ok.

Sorry could not resist this.

Dr. Dre Beats are made for crap music.

From what I've read and seen, the new Beats Pro (non-Monster) is actually pretty decent. A few Head-Fi'ers have actually tested them and found them okay and much better than before. Maybe their depart from Monster was a good thing.

Never really had a problem with beats... Then again, I'm no audiophile. It's no secret that beats' success is largely from massive marketing, rather than best sound quality on the market

The same people raging on the beats have been raging on the iPod, pretty much from the beginning, claiming Creative is way better.

People should just get what they want. PC/MAC, PS3/XBOX... you could keep on going, until you have the longest list in the universe. Nerd rage: So sad, It's entertaining

14 year olds claiming beatzzz is the bests thing in the whole wide world is sad. But so is 40 year old Audiophiles who claim you can't possibly live without lossless and setups in the thousands... just so they can claim to hear that faint background chime. If they could keep it to them selves, I would be fine with it. I got plenty quirks on my own to work on, I guess we all do.

It's all about compromise. Design vs function vs price vs quality...

My 12 year- old daughter told me that Beats are the best. That's all I need to know.

A lot of good reviews. Exactly my point.

Never see Monster in a recording studio?
They make some quality, and decently price mic cables. Probably their only appropriately priced product though. :/

Headphones suck for bass, all of them. There are many better ways to get exaggerated bass, if your into that sort of thing. This was my choice, much better than Beats.

Beats are decent headphones, really! The only thing wrong with them is the price.

This subject has been beaten to death on every forum i've visited in the last year, give it up.

Sure.

Did you not read what I said? "it's clear that they're talking about Dr. Dre and his music specifically, not artists in general."

I don't know if you're making things up just to piss people off or if you're really not getting it. Either way, further discussion with people like you tend to lead absolutely nowhere.
