Hi all, I just was wondering your thoughts about maybe the release of a new MBA with the new "Y chips" with 4 cores and new Iris graphic. :)

I could be way off here, but I see the MBA getting an A Series chip before a quad core Intel chip. For two reasons, the MBA would be the ideal choice to introduce the A Series chips into the Mac line up and a quad core chip in a MBA would certainly cut into the MBP business model.

I couldn't take the poll because I don't know and I'm not even expert enough to make an informed guess.

Any idea if these will allow them to use 2400 MHz RAM? If so, I think it's unlikely until they update the 13" pros to use that same speed.

Sounds like the 2020 MacBook Air will be the one to wait for. Quad Core, Iris Graphics and new Scissor-style keyboard.

Looking forward to it!

Really happy with my 2018 MBA in the meantime. I think it’s just a great line of laptops. Thin, light, silent and completely cool to the touch with amazing battery life. Now with the Retina display it has everything I wanted.

It would be a hell of a boost in both CPU and GPU performance. (Almost.... too much? If they want to keep some distance between the MBA and MBP13).

Lenovo have just announced similar upgrades to some of the yoga series which I would say relate directly to the MBA customer. Apple would be a bit silly not to update them, but we all know they do make decisions like this from time to time.

The surface book probably will receive similar in their October release.....

However I think they have changed their upgrade cycles over the last few years to be more competitive, so I am 80% sure that they will be updated in October.

Thats what they said about the regular MacBook. Now its discontinued. So I wouldn't count on it happening anytime soon

Y series is less powerfull than U series which is in MBP so there is no cannibalizing with newer MBP also worth mentioning that 4 cores is the new standard for any brand.

Well this is jut my guess

A late 2019 MacBook Air with :

-10th gen Ice Lake quad-core i5 processors
-8GB RAM
-256GB SSD
-Intel Iris Graphics
-12h+ battery life

And considering its weight, size, retina true tone display, Touch ID and possibly a new scissor keyboard for ~1100$ is probably the best all round 13” notebook.

That would be the ideal ultrabook

I just hope they use Ice Lake and not Comet Lake.
Yep me too Ice lake makes more sense for the new lineup, but I guess comet lake is cheaper.

There are lots of New ultrabooks announced at IFA germany with ICE lake chips like new acer swift 7 with Iris plus + nvidia MX250, new XPS 13 and more so hopefully...

I’m not convinced about Comet Lake’s graphics and battery life improvements, so I’m hoping for Ice Lake as well!

Comet lake doesn't have Iris graphic but same old integrated video chip.

Ice lake chips make more sense like the new ACER swift or XPS 13

They just got refreshed a month ago. Prob next year in the fall but not anytime soon.
Well I wouldn't call a refresh just adding true tone display. They would refresh the entire lineup for sure, otherwise apple will fall behind by a huge margin against competitors.

Intel 10th gen is promising especially on the graphic side as new IRIS is almost on par with nvidia MX250 as per early benchmarks.

Last MBA update was a joke, adding just true tone is not an update at all. I believe apple wants to push xmas sales before the end of the year so hopefully a new MBA will be released.
